K.B. Chandrasekhar Awarded Honorary Doctorate for His Contribution to Technology, R&D
 

CHENNAI NOVEMBER 6, 2006: Co-founder and Chairman of e4e Inc. Mr. K.B. Chandrasekhar (Chandra), was awarded with an honorary Doctor of Science degree by Anna University in recognition and appreciation of his laudable achievements in the field of Information Technology and his outstanding contribution in promoting research and development in India.

In addition to his role at e4e, Chandra is also the founder and CEO of Jamcracker Inc., an on-demand software company, Chairman of Aztecsoft Ltd. and a founder and former CEO of Exodus Communications Inc. At present he is associated with more than 20 entrepreneurial ventures in which he has invested.

Chandra began his career back in 1983, working for companies such as WIPRO and Rolta India LTD. His first entrepreneurial venture was Fouress, a network software and development firm. His entrepreneurial spirit was recognized back in 1999 when he was awarded the Ernst & Young Northern California Entrepreneur of the Year award. Chandra is a fine example of homegrown talent: he completed his Bachelor’s Degree in Science from the University of Madras in 1980 and a Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering from Madras Institute of Technology, Anna University in 1983.

Chandra set up the AU-KBC Research Centre (Anna University – K.B. Chandrasekhar Research Centre) in 1999 at the Madras Institute of Technology (MIT) campus of Anna University. The AU-KBC Centre promotes interdisciplinary research in the areas of information sciences and life sciences. The vision of this centre is to contribute to the economic growth and the social well-being of India through R&D. Chandra has also contributed substantially to networking and e-enabling the campuses of the Anna University, with special emphasis on promoting e-learning and remote education over the Internet.

Chandra has also been a member of the Committee of Overseas Indians, Ministry of Information Technology, Govt. of India, as well as the Chairman, Venture Capital Committee of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in 2000. In the United States of America, Chandra is one of the charter members of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TIE), a non-profit global network of entrepreneurs and professionals.
